The September Massacres [archive] in Paris and the 1804 Haiti Massacre [archive] are examples of the senseless murder which defined the two Leftist revolutions and drove many to seek safety in Dixie. Southerners generously opened their arms to many of the victims.

Dr. David Ramsay [archive] (1749-1815) wrote of this episode in Southern history in his work Ramsay’s History of South Carolina: From Its First Settlement in 1670 to the Year 1808. He wrote:

A new variety of human misery was lately presented for the exercise of [South Carolina’s] hospitality. The insecurity of life, liberty, and property, in revolutionary France, and the indiscriminate massacre of Frenchmen in St. Domingo, drove several hundreds in the last years of the 18th century to the shores of Carolina. They were kindly received; and, such as were in need, received a temporary accommodation at the expense of the public. Most of them fixed their residence in or near Charleston.

These days South Carolina and other Southern States are forced to take in more and more Muslim “refugees” [archive] from the Middle East, endangering our citizens and imposing an alien and incompatible culture in our midst. However, once upon a time we “kindly received” White, Right-wing refugees we thought would fit in and add to our strength. And we supported them when necessary for a short time. The contrast between the kinds of people to whom we offered refuge then and those we are forced to take in now is stark.

Immigration is without “assimilation”:

Bilingual education, legislative districts drawn along ethnic lines, and foreign language ballots are all efforts to change U.S. society to accommodate immigrants in a way that is very different from the past. Newcomers additionally benefit from affirmative action and diversity initiatives originally designed to help African Americans. Such race- and ethnicity-conscious measures encourage immigrants to see themselves as separate from society and in need of special treatment due to the hostility of ordinary Americans. John Fonte, [archive] a scholar at the Hudson Institute, has argued that such policies, which encourage immigrants to retain their language and culture, make patriotic assimilation less likely. . . . Even institutions seemingly designed to help immigrants integrate end up giving them mixed messages. As political psychologist Stanley Renshon [archive] points out, many immigrant-based organizations today do help immigrants learn English, but they also work hard to reinforce ties to the old country.

Immigration is a net loss for the welfare system — meaning, for taxpayers:

A further area of contention in the immigration debate is its economic and fiscal impact. Many immigrant families prosper in the United States, but a large fraction do not, adding significantly to social problems. Nearly one-third of all U.S. children living in poverty [archive] today have an immigrant father, and immigrants and their children account for almost one in three [archive] U.S. residents without health insurance. Despite some restrictions on new immigrants’ ability to use means-tested assistance programs, some 51 percent [archive] of immigrant-headed households use the welfare system, compared to 30 percent of native households. Of immigrant households with children, two-thirds access food assistance programs. [archive] . . . It is fair to question a system that welcomes immigrants who are so poor that they cannot feed their own children. . . .

Because the U.S. legal immigration system prioritizes family relationships over job skills—and because the government has generally tolerated illegal immigration—a large share of immigrants are unskilled. In fact, half of the adult immigrants in the United States have no education [archive] beyond high school. Such workers generally earn low wages, which means that they rely on the welfare state even though they are working.

This past fall, an exhaustive study [archive] by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine found that immigrants and their dependents use significantly more in public services than they pay in taxes, and the net drain could be as high as $296 billion per year.

Fasting intermittently strongly increases autophagy. In normal animals including humans, going without food for a few hours increases this process; in aging animals, longer periods of fasting may be necessary.

While the effect of fasting on the liver, muscles, and other organs has been well-known, until recently it was thought that this did not occur in the brain.

But scientists have recently shown that short-term fasting induces profound neuronal autophagy. [PDF] Mice that were fasted for 24 hours showed an increase in autophagy in the brain, and this effect increased after 48 hours of fasting.

“FOODIE CULTURE”: The Null Culture. [archive]

So-called foodie culture is interesting in that it is not really a culture. It is the result of lack of culture. The people endlessly searching for a new dish or new cuisine do so because they have nothing of their own or at least nothing they wish to hold up as their own. The endless search for some new exotic cuisine is a distraction from facing the fact that their own culture is dead and its artifacts are now just museum pieces.

Culture is the spirit of the people. Their customs, foods and social structures are the result. The moveable feast that is foodie culture is not a celebration of something holy or sacred. It is shiva [archive] for people who no longer have any attachment to the rest of us or our share past. They see themselves as rootless visitors, sampling life in the hope that it will provide their lives with meaning, or at least make them mildly interesting to others.

BLAME WHITEY: DeShawn Taylor Exposes John Piper’s Vicious Lies About “White Abortionists”. [archive]

John Piper tells lies. Vicious, hateful lies, claiming that it’s “white people” murdering black and brown babies in abortion clinics. Are some abortionists white? Yes, they are. But, as we can clearly see from DeShawn Taylor and Kermit Gosnell, there are plenty of abortionists who are black. There are abortionists of every race.

And if John Piper wants to make abortion a racial/ethnic issue, fine. But half-measures won’t do. Don’t use the vague term “whites” when talking about exactly which group is performing all these abortions. Let’s get down to details, John. And the details are that those “whites” are overwhelmingly from one ethnic group, Jews, many of whom would angrily deny that they’re “white.” Jewish ob-gyns are 40 times more likely to perform abortions than evangelical Protestant doctors: [archive]

A survey of 1,800 practicing ob-gyns found that while 97 percent of them have encountered a woman seeking an abortion, only 14 percent are willing or able to provide them.

THE ALT-RIGHT WON THE ELECTION, and it will continue to highlight the paradoxes of openness and inclusion. [archive] (Note: The author uses the term “alt-right” in a broad sense, as representing a “cluster of conservative principles” held more by Steve Bannon than Richard Spencer.)

The alt-right movement underlying Trump’s victory consists of principles and not just prejudices. To embark on an analysis of these principles, one must ignore much of the media coverage of the Trump movement. Indeed, a common point between academic and media analysis is the tendency to “unmask” an ideological opponent. To unmask is to reveal a delusion beneath a political or intellectual claim. To unmask is to presuppose that there is no principled basis for debate. There is nothing to understand besides the error of the other. The presence of difference of opinion attests only to the existence of false-consciousness, not to the existence of a question that admits more than one answer.

Some terms commonly used to portray Trump and his circle are “neo-Nazi,” “anti-semitic,” and “misogynistic.” These are of course the evil antonyms of equality; they are sufficient to undermine the legitimacy of any viewpoint under review. But there are several methodological problems here. First, some of these terms do not figure in the discourse under investigation. While “neo-Nazi” may well be a preferred term in certain fringe political associations not endorsed by Trump and Bannon, “misogynistic” is not a term that conservatives of any stripe that I am familiar with employ to characterize themselves. The imposition of condescending labels implying ignorance and hatred raises the question of what constitutes the threshold for imputing such predicates. And why not—in the spirit of Max Weber’s sociology of understanding as opposed to the Leftist sociology of unmasking —focus on the terms of self-description used by the subjects themselves? . . .

A major methodological issue that often escapes attention pertains to the fact that some blacks (8% overall, 13% of black men) voted for a candidate reputed to be racist, that many Jews (25%) voted for someone portrayed as anti-semitic, and that a majority of white women (53%, and 45% of all women with college degrees) voted for an alleged misogynist. Of course, one could choose to extend the logic of unmasking by arguing that the white women who voted for Trump are “white nationalists” who are ignorant of the gender dynamics in the Trump camp. By the same logic, black men who voted for Trump are presumably misogynistic and blind to how the alt-right seeks to victimize them.

But a better argument is that how people envision politics, and how they choose to vote, does not map onto the grid of social interests and biases articulated by leftist academics and journalists.

‘RUSSIAGATE’ Is Failing And Its Supporters Are Getting Concerned. [archive]

These attempts to use Congressional committees as investigative and prosecutorial instruments suffer from a basic misconception: these are oversight committees, not investigative or prosecutorial committees, and they cannot be used in that way. They cannot magic up evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia that the actual investigation – the one carried out by the FBI – says is not there.

The single most important fact about the last few weeks, and the clearest possible sign that the ‘Russiagate’ scandal is flagging, is that there have been no more leaks from within the intelligence and security agencies since the ones at the beginning of March [archive] about Jeff Sessions’s meetings with the Russian ambassador.

That suggests that the former Obama administration officials, who I suspect were the people who were physically communicating the information in the leaks to the media, are no longer being fed information about Donald Trump and his associates or about the progress of the FBI investigation by their sources within the intelligence and national security bureaucracy.

WHOOPS: Undercover Reporter Finds Subversive Sermons in ‘Normal’ Mosques Across Germany. [archive] “Experts agree that the majority of German mosques are home to imams who urge followers to reject German values, Sputnik Deutschland reported.”

The book is called “Inside Islam – Was in Deutschlands Moscheen gepredigt wird” (Inside Islam – What is being preached in Germany’s mosques), and warns that most mosques are fostering parallel societies within Germany. . . .

On Tuesday, German TV journalist and expert on Islam Constantin Schreiber presented his book, which details his experience visiting Arabic- and Turkish-speaking mosques in six cities across Germany over an eight-month period.

He deliberately selected so-called “normal mosques,” not the “Salafist meeting places” that are monitored by German intelligence services. . . .

There were no imams calling for violence against unbelievers in these ordinary mosques. However, they preach the rejection of the values of ordinary Germans and see German society as a source of danger and temptation for Muslims. The freedom of religion which is afforded to Muslims appears to be the only positive thing they have to say about Germany.

UNWELCOME: Venezuelan Jews Barred From Immigrating to Israel Because ‘They Don’t Belong to a Jewish Community’. [archive] “Despite evidence, Ministry of Interior claims applicants – suffering from shortages in food and medication – haven’t been engaged enough in Jewish life.”

Following three years of study, in early 2014, they were converted by a Conservative rabbinical court, comprised of three American rabbis. Afterward, they joined a synagogue in Valencia, a recognized Jewish community about an hour’s drive away, where they have been active members ever since. 

The nine converts, all indigenous Venezuelans, belong to three families. In documentation presented to the Jewish Agency in November, Rabbi Juan Mejia, a Spanish-speaking rabbi from Oklahoma who oversaw the conversions, confirmed that they had all joined the Jewish community of Valencia at his recommendation. . . .

In a letter addressed to Jewish Agency officials several months ago, Mejia begged for compassion from the Israeli authorities, noting the severe shortages in food and medicine his converts were facing, as well as threats to their personal safety. “The country in which they live is collapsing around them,” he wrote. . . .

Last week, during a special Knesset caucus meeting attended by a delegation of American rabbis representing the various Jewish movements, the Israeli government was attacked for its indifference to the plight of the Venezuelan Jews. The issue was raised by Asher Lopatin, a prominent modern Orthodox rabbi. “These nine individuals underwent conversions that were 100 percent in line with the Law of Return,” he said, “and I am saying that as an Orthodox rabbi. They must be allowed to come to Israel.”

Leading the struggle in Israel on behalf of the nine converts is Rabbi Andy Sacks, director of the Conservative movement’s Rabbinical Assembly in Israel. “Sadly it is all too common that issues of race and denominational affiliation play into the decisions made by the Interior Ministry,” he said. . . .

In an email exchange with Haaretz, Mejia wrote: “More egregious than that Israel would deny people who fulfill the legal requirements their right of return is the fact that the actions of the Interior Ministry are continuing to put these people’s life at risk.”

GOOD FOR THE RULING CLASS, BAD FOR EVERYONE ELSE: Mexican farmer’s daughter: NAFTA destroyed us. [archive]

As cheap American corn came pouring in from the border, it had a devastating effect on her family. Her father, Benancio Mendoza, couldn’t compete and make a living wage selling corn. He had to give up and move to the United States looking for a job. He took up a job as a cook in Tennessee, saving up money to send home so his kids could attend school.

“He went north looking for a job and I didn’t see him again for 18 years,” says Mendoza, who now works as a secretary for the local government.

While NAFTA did boost Mexico’s manufacturing industry, it gutted many farming towns — especially mom and pop corn farmers like Benancio’s.

Mexico lost over 900,000 farming jobs in the first decade of NAFTA, according to data from the United States Department of Agriculture.

Mendoza says her small town of Santa Ana Zegache is now inhabited mostly by women and the elderly because working-age men went to the United States looking for jobs — the vast majority crossing over illegally.

NAFTA opened the Mexican market to U.S. corn producers who were subsidized by the U.S. government.

“Then he spat on me as he was pushed out of the takeaway”, Ashraf told the website. The man fled the scene before officers arrived, and the incident is being treated as a racially motivated hate crime.

The suspect is of Arab appearance, in his 30s and about 5ft 9ins tall, police said, adding that he had facial hair and spoke with a non-British accent.

The demonstration at Lyric Square, at which Londoners were urged to “Say No to Racism” and “Say Yes to Diversity” according to [archive] promotional flyers, was organised by Stand Up to Racism.

The group condemn what they say is “a racist offensive sweeping Europe”, and hold marches demanding open borders and an end to criticism of mass immigration.

There is no mistaking the implication. They intentionally wanted to deceive their listeners.

NEUROTIC: ThinkProgress Senior Editor Is Scared of His Plumber. [archive] Unfortunately, the author of the article didn’t seek out a comment from the person in question, so this remains unconfirmed. But according to a tweet [archive] by “Jason C.” (@CounterMoonbat) on Twitter, Ned Resnikoff allegedly wrote the following, presumably on some social media site, within days of Donald Trump being elected president:

Wanted to share an experience from earlier today. This afternoon, I had aplumber [sic] over to my apartment to fix a clogged drain. He was a perfectly nice guy and a consummate professional. But he was also a middle-aged white man with a southern accent who seemed unperturbed by this week’s news. And while I had him in the apartment, I couldn’t stop thinking about whether he had voted for Trump, whether he knew my last name was Jewish, and how that knowledge might change the interaction we were having inside my own home. I have no real reason to believe he was a Trump supporter or an anti-Semite, but in my uncertainty I couldn’t shake the sense of potential danger. I was rattled for some time after he left.

I’m very privileged insofar as this sense of danger is unfamiliar to me. And I know I feel it much less acutely than a lot of other people right now. I’m still a straight, white guy who can phenotypically pass for gentile. Plus my name is pretty WASP-y.

But today was a reminder that ambiguous social interactions now feel unsafe and unpredictable in a way that they never did before. And even if Trump is gone in four years, I don’t expect to ever reclaim that feeling of security. That’s just one more thing you voted for, if you voted for him.

Another 5,000 French Jews emigrated to Israel last year, figures showed Monday, continuing a trend that has seen tens of thousands quit the country after a series of attacks targeting the community.

The Jewish Agency of Israel issued the update as France marked two years since attacks on the Charlie Hebdo magazine offices and on a Jewish supermarket in Paris, where four shoppers were shot dead.

Daniel Benhaim, who heads the Israeli-backed group in France, said that insecurity had been a “catalyst” for many Jews who were already thinking of leaving.

BAIT AND SWITCH: How The Left Thinks: Why Blacks Cannot Commit Hate Crimes. [archive]

Make a statement that sounds neutral and get people to buy into it. Brand the opposition as fear mongerers, racists, sexists, etc. Only years after the statement is generally accepted, you then move the goal post and clarify what the statement really means in the context of current events, which is now no longer a neutral statement. Then group anyone who now disagrees with the nazis, fear mongerers, etc. . . .

“There should be an additional penalty for crimes committed on victims based on their race.” The current events of the time where this statement was uttered and debated were you had some white people literally tie a black man to the bumper of a truck and then dragged him to his death. Normal people were appalled at this behavior, and it was racially motivated. Many accepted that an additional punishment was warranted. (At the time, I didn’t.)

Fast forward to today. Black Lives Matter supporters kidnap and torture a special-needs white Trump supporter, and you have people saying that it’s not a hate crime, and the thing is, they are correct. Because they define a hate crime as solely whites committing crimes against minorities.

Had they mentioned that 20 years ago, the public sentiment would have been much different.

We’ve heard for decades that diversity is great. But today it’s clear that diversity does not include white males.

One day it won’t include white females, either.

That day may have already arrived. See earlier, “Diversity” means fewer white people: “It was only a matter of time before white women joined the ranks of the unwanted. The phony-baloney rape hoax culture at colleges hilariously ignores assaults by black guys on white women. In fact, those are covered up because black trumps white, regardless of the sex involved. PROBE INTO GERMANWINGS CRASH finds suicidal pilot solely responsible. [archive]

German prosecutors said on Monday that they had closed a criminal probe into the Germanwings plane crash in March 2015 after concluding that the suicidal co-pilot bore sole responsibility for the disaster that killed all on board.

The probe focused on whether any doctors who treated the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, had been criminally negligent in not reporting him to authorities before the plane came down in France, killing 144 passengers and six crew, mostly from Spain and Germany.

The probe also concluded that Germanwings had “no knowledge of psychological ailments” suffered by Lubitz.

Third World invaders pretending to be refugees in Germany carried out at least 1,964 serious sex attacks in Germany during 2016, preying on 2,000 adults and 1,000 children, a new study by monitoring group XY Einzefall has shown. . . .

Only incidents which were actually reported by the police, or which were reported in the controlled media, were added to the XY Einzefall list. Their spreadsheet contains the links to the police and media reports.

Of the 201 reported rapes, at least 35 were minors, the study showed. Of the 1,559 sex attacks, 653 victims were minors, and of the 204 swimming pool sex attacks, 286 were minors.

This works out at nearly six serious sex attacks every day during 2016.

However, as XY Einzelfall points out in its study, these figures are merely the tip of the iceberg. Quoting a separate study in Austria, [archive] the groups said that “only a tiny fraction of all crimes are published as a police or media-report.”

The Austrian study quoted compared complaints laid with the police to those reported by the police’s media officers and those reported in the media. The difference was vast, the study said, finding that in Vienna, of the more than 200,000 complaints made to police, less than 2,000 police reports were actually published.

With regard to rape cases, the study found, of the 647 rapes reported to the police, only 15 were ever mentioned by police reports and media.

“For this reason,” the study says, “the total number of crimes committed by migrants is much higher.”

THE FUTILITY of gender-neutral parenting. [archive]

The scientific reality is that it’s futile to treat children as blank slates with no predetermined characteristics. Biology matters.

A large and long-standing body of research literature shows that toy preferences, for example, are innate, not socially constructed or shaped by parental feedback.

Most girls will gravitate toward socially interesting toys, like dolls, that help social and verbal abilities develop. Most boys will gravitate toward toys that are mechanically interesting, like cars and trucks, fostering visuo-spatial skills.

One recent study, published in Infant and Child Development, showed that these preferences emerge as early as nine months of age [archive] — before children are developmentally aware that gender differences exist, at around 18 months.

Another piece of evidence comes from studying girls who were exposed to high levels of testosterone prenatally, in the case of a genetic condition called congenital adrenal hyperplasia, or CAH. Girls with CAH tend to be gender nonconforming [archive], and will prefer toys that are typical to boys, even when their parents offer more praise for playing with female-typical ones. This speaks to the vital role of hormones in developing gender preferences and sex differences in behavior, more broadly.

We also see the same trend in our primate cousins, including rhesus [archive] and vervet monkeys. [archive] Young female monkeys gravitate toward dolls while male monkeys prefer wheeled toys, despite the fact they aren’t encouraged by other monkeys or their caregivers in their choices.

A refugee newly arrived from Somalia has been tried and convicted for attempting to sexually assault a special-needs woman while she was sitting outside of a home for the disabled in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Liban Mohamed, 39, was in the United States for only about a week when he tried to force himself on a 31-year-old woman with severe disabilities. He is not a U.S. citizen, but whether he will be deported in the wake of his conviction remains unclear.

The trial for Mohamed was held just a few days before Christmas and not a word of the conviction has made it into the local media, residents of Aberdeen told WND on Tuesday.

Mohamed speaks no English and required two interpreters at trial, according to the state’s attorney who prosecuted the case.

Court documents said Acosta took more than $70,000 in bribes to help the traffickers move over a ton of marijuana.

Mai Nhu Nguyen, an Immigration Service Officer in Santa Ana, Calif., approved or denied citizenship applications for immigrants until she started taking bribes of money and food. In November 2011, according to the court documents, she approved a citizenship application in return for 100 egg rolls.

Joohoon David Lee[, a] federal Homeland Security agent working for Immigration and Custom Enforcement in Los Angeles, . . . interviewed a woman who said she came to the US to become a sex slave for a Korean businessman identified as HS in the court papers cited by the Times. . . . Lee contacted the businessman’s lawyer and said if he received an all-expenses-paid trip to Korea where he would interview HS, he would write a favorable report cleaning the accused man. . . . In all, Lee received about $13,000 in bribes.

Acosta was sentenced in February 2016. Asked last week to provide the data, SPLC initially said it was having a hard time getting the information “from the researchers.” Pressed, SPLC spokeswoman Kirsten Bokenkamp finally revealed that “about 20 percent answered affirmatively to that question.”

The first victim came forward to police Aug. 14. He turned over pictures of himself naked with Babbitt. The teen said Babbitt agreed to be a mentor for him when he came out as gay to his family.

At National Review, Dan McLaughlin, formerly of RedState.com, gloats [archive] over a recent poll by Reuters/Ipsos [archive] purporting to show Hillary Clinton well ahead of Donald Trump . . .

Of the 1,276 respondents, 628 (49.2%) were Democrats, just 498 (39.0%) were Republicans, and 112 (8.8%) were independents, and the remaining 38 (3.0%) were members of another party.

A 10.2% margin of Democrats over Republicans? . . .

Gallup has reliable long-term historical data on party affiliations, [archive] and as of the latest data in late May, the split is 28% to 27% for Democrats over Republicans. That would be a 1% advantage to the Democrats, not 10.2%.

The numbers fluctuate, however, so one wonders how reliable they really are.

We’ll also deal with that flawed Fox News poll [archive] referred to by NRO. It shows Clinton ahead of Trump 42% to 39% in the direct match-up, or also up by 39% to 36% when Gary Johnson is thrown in. And then we look behind the curtain for the answer to the following question: “When you think about politics, do you think of yourself as a Democrat or a Republican?”

The Fox News poll split is a 6% advantage to the Democrats, 41% to 35%, over the Republican respondents, as compared to an even split in the previous polls by this outlet. Take that bias away, and we have at least a statistical tie, or, more likely, a slight Trump lead.

DALAI LAMA: Muslim refugees cannot be allowed to turn Germany into an “Arab country.” [archive]

“Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country,” the Dali Lama said, Agence France Pressreported Tuesday. “Germany is Germany. There are so many that in practice it becomes difficult. … From a moral point of view, too, I think that the refugees should only be admitted temporarily.”

The Dali Lama added that despite the need to empathize with refugees, the ultimate goal “should be that they return and help rebuild their countries.”

In sane times, such a mundane, commonsense opinion wouldn’t be all that newsworthy. But the Dalai Lama is much beloved by many on the left, and what he says would be declared by those in power as racist and even unspeakable—if expressed by any white person, anyway.

INCENTIVES: There Have Been Over 100 Hate Crime Hoaxes In The Past Decade. [archive]

Perhaps thanks to the effect of social media and citizen-led sleuthing, reports of hate-crime hoaxes undergo a massive surge in the years after 2011. 2015 seems to have been a high point — our search found over 20 incidents in that year alone.

Then again, we’re only a quarter of the way through 2016. There have already been four major hate crime hoaxes this year.

And consider this: those are just the ones that were reported. How many other hate crime hoaxers are still out there, undiscovered and unpunished? It’s impossible to say, but given human empathy’s tendency to override scepticism, we suspect the number is high — and probably rising. Because the left is running out of real haters.
