ROBERT OSCAR LOPEZ: The Bryan Singer Pederasty Story is an Elephant in the Room.

Because these are still allegations at this point and nothing is proved, I would like respectfully to refrain from saying much about it. . . .

Having said that, the charges made by Singer’s accuser sound much like scenes to which I was exposed as a late teen . . . The gay male community has a real problem with predators and a dangerous erotic fascination with boys . . . Part of the allure of young-looking males is the turn-on for many older gay men to exploit their typical awkwardness, need for approval, restlessness, and vulnerability. . . .

Up until 2012, I had always narrated a sanitized version of my past to myself: I was precocious, sexually curious, and “advanced for my age,” I told myself. Never was I a victim; never did anything happen that I didn’t control and pre-arrange. It was my French ally Iphigénie who first called me out . . .

“You sound like someone who was severely sexually abused,” she said, “and you are doing what so many victims do; reinventing the story so you are the aggressor rather than the violated one. But you must stop writing such things, because you are feeding the ideology of the pedophiles who say the young boys want their attentions.” . . .

Over the ensuing months, I found myself examining my own past, even consulting my journals some, to make sense of what pederasty did to me as a boy. For the first time I processed something that I’d avoided dealing with before: I was a boy of thirteen when I became a sexual toy for older men, and not long afterwards, I was a whore. A whore.

Earlier: “Pederasty is a serious problem in the gay male community, because it is so pervasive that one could say that is integral to mainstream gay culture.”

UK: Islamist plot: six schools face Ofsted special measures.

A separate report, by inspectors from the DfE, has substantiated many of the allegations. The report, disclosed in The Telegraph on Friday, accused Park View, Nansen and Golden Hillock of illegally segregating pupils, discriminating against non-Muslim students and “restricting” the GCSE syllabus to “comply with conservative Islamic teaching”.

The report said girls at Park View and Golden Hillock were made to sit at the back of the class; some Christian pupils at Golden Hillock were left to “teach themselves” and at Park View a supporter of al-Qaeda was invited to speak at assembly. Aspects of the GCSE curriculum were ignored as un-Islamic, even though needed by pupils for exams.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: Child’s autism risk accelerates with mother’s age over 30.

The risk of having a child with ASD had a more complicated relationship to age in women than in men — whose risk of fathering a child with ASD increased linearly with age across their lifespan. Among women giving birth before the age of 30, the risk of ASD in the child showed no association with age — it was simply very low. But for babies born to mothers aged 30 and older, the chance of developing ASD rose rapidly with the mother’s age.

Lee noted that the non-linear maternal age effect that is relatively stronger than the paternal age effect on ASD risk has been observed in previous studies, but has not received much attention.

WOMAN EXPLAINS that women are single because men just aren’t good enough: the “religious,” “conservative” account.

Declining marriage rates among millenials . . . may be partly due to an increasing imbalance in the number of marriageable men and women at all levels of society. For example, women have attended and graduated from college at higher rates than men for some years now, and in 2010 women receiving doctoral degrees outnumbered men for the first time.

So, the marriageability of men is determined by how many pieces of paper they have framed on their walls. And the marriageability of women only increases with age and the size of their student loan debt. Just remember that the essay is written by a female lawyer who is presumably looking to “marry up,” and the presence of such odd assertions will make more sense.

Even if a woman is looking out only for a degreed man, her options extend beyond her age group. In a given year, sure, more women than men receive (often worthless) degrees, but the pool of degreed men includes those who received degrees in the past. And, though the pool of degreed women also includes those who are older, young women have the advantage over them: they’re younger, prettier, and more fertile. A woman has more options when she’s young. If she doesn’t get married then, it’s on her, not on men her age.

It is true that, while the rate of women interested in getting married has increased, the rate of men so interested has been decreasing. But this isn’t the same as men being unmarriageable. In any case, wouldn’t it be helpful to discern why more men aren’t interested? Just assuming that they aren’t good enough doesn’t get us anywhere.

In my experience, most conservative and religious women . . . expected to find a husband in college, and if not there, then at church, or perhaps in graduate school—or, in the worst-case scenario, through online dating. Many did. Many did not. But it is unfair to criticize those who did not, when the two populations where they are most likely to find a spouse are either evenly divided between men and women or, in the case of churches and some colleges, are heavily female.

Planet Earth is “evenly divided between men and women.” It’s a wonder anyone gets married!

STUDY: The influence of ovulation on female behavior.

The studies find that ovulation doesn’t always make women want more status. When women played against a man rather than a woman in the dictator game, the researchers found an even more surprising result. Whereas ovulating women became meaner to women, they became nicer to men. While non-ovulating women shared about 45 percent of the money with a man, ovulating women gave 60 percent of the money to the man.

“These findings are unlike anything we have ever seen in the dictator game. You just don’t see people giving away more than half of their money,” noted Durante. “One possibility is that we’re seeing ovulating women share more money as a way to flirt with the men.”

“Money, Status and the Ovulatory Cycle” was published in the February issue of Journal of Marketing Research and builds on Durante and Griskevicius’ previous work that has shown how the ovulatory cycle alters preferences for romantic partners, clothing, food and even politics. Based on studies rooted in theory and research in evolutionary biology and evolutionary consumer behavior, their findings that ovulating women jockey for position over other women is consistent with the literature on animals. For example, studies have shown that female monkeys become more aggressive toward other females when fertile.

COOL: New project aims to decode the sperm whale’s communication system using the latest animal-borne acoustic technology.

From a small boat, Gero and colleagues are planning to fit an acoustic measurement kit on the backs of the whales when they are near the surface. This will be done using a 10-metre long pole.

The acoustic measurement kit uses accelerometers, magnetometers and pressure sensors to measure movements, speeds and depths, and it measures the whales’ positions as well as the sounds they emit.

”The whales do not feel the 200-gram instruments that we stick onto their backs and which come off after 48 hours. When the kit has come loose, it emits a radio signal, which enables us to locate it. We extract the data and then we can reuse these so-called DTAGs on other whales,” says Gero.

CULTURAL ENRICHMENT: The poster girls for jihad: Interpol searches for two Austrian teens ‘in Syria fighting for Islamic rebels’.

Interpol is searching for two Austrian teenage girls who they believe were tricked into going to Syria to fight for Islamist rebels.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: Watermelon prevents sore muscles.

If you eat a couple of large chunks of watermelon before a heavy training session today, you’ll have less problems with sore muscles tomorrow. According to nutritionists at the Universidad Politecnica de Cartagena in Spain, this is because watermelon is a high-quality source of L-citrulline . . .

L-Citrulline is a precursor of L-arginine, which in turn is a precursor of the blood vessel widener and performance enhancer nitrogen monoxide.

SO, WHAT ELSE IS NEW? Corn Ethanol Is Of No Use.

In 2007, the global price of corn doubled as a result of an explosion in ethanol production in the U.S. Because corn is the most common animal feed and has many other uses in the food industry, the price of milk, cheese, eggs, meat, corn-based sweeteners and cereals increased as well. World grain reserves dwindled to less than two months, the lowest level in over 30 years.

Additional unintended effects from the increase in ethanol production include the dramatic rise in land rents, the increase in natural gas and chemicals used for fertilizers, over-pumping of aquifers like the Ogallala that serve many mid-western states, clear-cutting forests to plant fuel crops, and the revival of destructive practices such as edge tillage.

AGING FEMINIST: “Hooray for sexual liberation! Now I can die lonely and poor.”

I am a feminist, I really am (I’ve never let a man pay for anything), but feel the current generation of women in their 60s, the first to abandon the way of life of their mothers, which meant they pursued careers, married and had children late, had affairs then got divorced, all in the name of liberation, are now imprisoned in debt, alcohol abuse and loneliness, wishing they could die, and do it soon. . . .

No one ever sat me down and gave me financial advice. Not a bank manager, or my parents, or a teacher, or a boss, or an agent, or even an accountant.

I have worked since I was 18 years old, never had a day off sick or a spell on maternity leave, and have absolutely nothing to show for it.

Women like me – I’m now in my 50s – have survived mainly on optimism, the thought that one day we will be OK. The thing is, we have simply run out of time.

She doesn’t say it, but what she ran out of time for was finding a husband to take on for her the financial responsibility that she never did. Turns out that men don’t prefer old women.

STEVE SAILER: “A dead body with a hole in it demands attention,” but not necessarily in Chicago. “One of the verities of crime statistics analysis is that homicide stats are more trustworthy than other kinds of statistics. But if the cops are under a lot of political pressure, as Chicago cops were after [Chicago’s] recent murder spree, well, a bunch of homicides can turn into just plain dead bodies.”

The Chicago Magazine article to which he links is revealing:

Current and former veteran detectives who reviewed the Groves case at Chicago’s request were just as incredulous. Says a retired high-level detective, “How can you be tied to a chair and gagged, with no clothes on, and that’s a [noncriminal] death investigation?” (He, like most of the nearly 40 police sources interviewed for this story, declined to be identified by name, citing fears of disciplinary action or other retribution.)

Was it just a coincidence, some wondered, that the reclassification occurred less than two weeks before the end of the year, when the city of Chicago’s final homicide numbers for 2013 would be tallied? . . .

This troubling practice goes far beyond murders, documents and interviews reveal. Chicago found dozens of other crimes, including serious felonies such as robberies, burglaries, and assaults, that were misclassified, downgraded to wrist-slap offenses, or made to vanish altogether.

UK: Multiculturalism vs. Islamism.

Britain’s multiculturalism policies offered taxpayer funds and political legitimacy to anyone who claimed to represent a community. As with all communities, it was the politicized activists who rose to the top and asserted their authority with little opposition. In the case of the British Muslim community, these activists belonged to Jamaat-e-Islami, the Bangladeshi Islamist group responsible for acts of genocide during the 1971 Independence War in Bangladesh.

Groups such as the Muslim Council of Britain are mostly run by individuals and groups tied closely to Jamaat-e-Islami. A 2007 poll by Policy Exchange revealed [PDF], however, that 94% of British Muslims do not believe that the Muslim Council of Britain represents their views. . . .

British Islamists, exploiting the imposition of multiculturalism, forced their officially recognized and publicly funded model of Muslim identity upon their conscripted South Asian constituents. The bright colors and sounds of Pakistani and Bengali culture were lost to the dark homogeneity of Wahhabi-inspired Islam. . . .

British Interfaith Dialogue is a natural product of multiculturalist policies: the division of citizens into pre-approved identities. The Inter Faith Network, in fact, rejects some religious groups, such as the minority Muslim Ahmadiyya community, as unsuitable partners for dialogue, apparently for fear of upsetting the Islamist-led organizations that make up its member bodies. Just as multiculturalism offered supremacy to particular individuals and groups, so too, today, taxpayer-funded interfaith dialogue has damaged relations between different religious communities and has falsely legitimized Islamist groups as representative of all British Muslims.

DOES RESEARCHING CASUAL MARIJUANA USE cause brain abnormalities? “First of all, the study has a very small sample size, with only 20 ‘cases’ (marijuana users), a fact that is important to keep in mind in what follows. The title uses the term ‘recreational users’ to describe them, and in the press release accompanying the article Breiter says that ‘Some of these people only used marijuana to get high once or twice a week. People think a little recreational use shouldn’t cause a problem, if someone is doing OK with work or school. Our data directly says this is not the case.’ In fact, the majority of users in the study were smoking more than 10 joints per week. There is even a person in the study smoking more than 30 joints per week (as disclosed above, I’m not an expert on this stuff but if 30 joints per week is ‘recreation’ then it seems to me that person is having a lot of fun). More importantly, Breiter’s statement in the press release is a lie. There is no evidence in the paper whatsoever, not even a tiny shred, that the users who were getting high once or twice a week were having any problems.”

JANET BLOOMFIELD: Seduction versus coercion: accountability is such a b*tch. The post concerns how feminists misconstrue masculinity and deny agency to women. With regard to the former she writes,

It’s not masculinity that insists men are little more than rutting pigs seeking any wet hole. That’s the story feminism spins about masculinity, particularly through the idea of rape culture . . .

How do men define masculinity then . . . ?

Honorable

Self-reliant

Respected

Top three qualities reported by 27 000 randomly selected men from 8 different countries.

With regard to feminists’ strategic denial of agency to women, she writes,

Both the man and the woman are at a party, both are approached by opposite sex partners, both receive passionate kisses and both are fondled. Both agree to sexual activity even though neither one is interested in that.

The man wakes up and thinks “Well that was stupid. I’m not doing that again.”

The woman wakes up and thinks, “Oh my god, I’ve been raped!” . . .

There you have the main difference between men and women who have experienced sexual coercion. He gives in but never fails to understand he made the choice to give in. She gives in and wants to punish her male partner for her decision, because she can’t handle the responsibility for her own choices.

It’s really pathetic.

When feminists peddle their “rape culture” and “toxic masculinity” they are really attempting to reframe our whole culture so that men are responsible actors accountable for their own choices, while women are helpless victims who cannot be held responsible for theirs, but can instead pass that responsibility onto men. And it’s patriarchy that infantilizes women, is it?

Sounds like a case of reverse reverse sexism, a subset of reverse reverse bigotry, whereby an ideology of victimization ends up harming the very groups it intends to privilege.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: Psychopaths: how can you spot one? “Autistic people can be very empathetic – they feel other people’s pain – but are less able to recognise the cues we read easily, the smiles and frowns that tell us what someone is thinking. A 2008 study that asked participants to remember virtual characters found that those who scored highly for psychopathy had a near perfect recognition for sad, unsuccessful females, but impaired memory for other characters.)”

SCIENCE: How common is scientific misconduct in Nigeria?

Simple methodological factors can make a dramatic difference on the results. One of these factors is how generic the questions in the survey are, and this study used a pre-existing questionnaire with a definition of misconduct that is very very broad. Other major confounding factors in surveys, which are very hard to quantify and rarely are, are the knowledge and awareness that respondents have on these issues, and how much respondents might feel unconsciously pressed to satisfy the expectations of the study itself. . . .

Having said that, this is actually not the only survey to suggest that data fabrication might be unusually high in African countries, and further research could bring some very unsettling surprises.

It is not merely that, as the Big Climate enforcers say, ‘the science is settled’, but so is everything else, from abortion to gay marriage. So what’s to talk about? Universities are no longer institutions of inquiry but ‘safe spaces’ where delicate flowers of diversity of race, sex, orientation, ‘gender fluidity’ and everything else except diversity of thought have to be protected from exposure to any unsafe ideas.

As it happens, the biggest ‘safe space’ on the planet is the Muslim world. For a millennium, Islamic scholars have insisted, as firmly as a climate scientist or an American sophomore, that there’s nothing to debate. And what happened?

THEODORE DALRYMPLE: Some Questions.

“Do you care about the health of our planet?”

Frankly, the answer is that I don’t. Planets, unlike dogs, are not the kind of thing I can feel affection or concern for. My bank account occupies my mind more than the health of the planet. I am not even sure that planets can be healthy or unhealthy, any more than they can be witty or self-effacing. . . .

As befits an era in which virtual reality is more important to many people than reality itself, the expression of high-flown sentiment is now taken by many as the major part or even the whole of virtue. The most virtuous person is he who expresses the most all-encompassing benevolence at the highest level of abstraction. I felt like writing back to the editor of the Lancet (only he wouldn’t read it) that I disagreed with his discriminatory planetism: that I cared only for the health of the universe, or universes, if the speculations of the astrophysicists about the existence of other universes turned out to be true.

NEVER ENOUGH: Activists to UMich: Admit unqualified students, if they are black.

Kimbrough’s comments follow weeks of increasing tensions over race at U-M. BAMN activists, as well as minority students with the Black Student Union, another group, have continuously demanded increased black and Latino enrollment, even though a state constitutional amendment prohibits administrators from considering race as a factor toward admission.

Earlier this year, BSU made a list of demands and threatened “physical action,” if they were not met. The most costly demand was met almost immediately, as administrators hastily approved a $300,000 renovation to the UM multicultural center. University officials have also met frequently to listen to BSU’s demands and assuage their concerns about diversity on campus.

BAMN stands for “By Any Means Necessary.” The full name of the group is the “Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration & Immigrant Rights, and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary.” When will that battle be over, no matter how many successes there are? Never.

If there are people who just want to keep pushing you around without end, it’s best not to compromise at all. Give them nothing, unless you’re prepared to give up everything.

THE WAR RAGES ON: RadFems vs. Trannies: Will Feminists Let ‘Gender Queers’ Boss Them Around?

Liberals tacitly side with the transgenders [sic] in pretending that the radfems — a/k/a TERFs (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists) — have no legitimate grievance.

What the TERFs perceive is that male-to-female transgenders [sic] are cynically seeking to usurp and co-opt the “feminist” label for their own advantage, thus shunting aside biological [i.e., actual] women and demoting them to second-class status within their own movement.

It’s a pretty amazing strategy. Here’s an example of how one man operates:

This failed male, then, presumes to tell feminists they must banish from their conferences and publications — “no-platforming,” as it is called — anyone associated with radical feminists who refuse to accept transgenders [sic] as being the same as women. So if a feminist author participates in a “non-inclusive” (TERF) conference, then she must be blacklisted from other feminist conferences because, to quote Charlie Hale, “Inviting such speakers not only negatively impacts the climate of the movement, but actively makes marginalised people feel less safe and welcome in the event and the movement as a whole.”

And thereby — voila! — a man appoints himself the arbiter of who is acceptable within the Official Feminist Movement.

Brilliant.

The very fact that liberals want everybody to ignore this obscure conflict should be a clue that the conflict is, in fact, highly significant.

Take notes. This could be useful.

Small amounts of real chocolate and somewhat larger amounts of artificially pimped high polyphenol chocolate are good for you; and it goes without saying that this constraint excludes 99% of the chocolate and allegedly “chocolate” containing foods that are sold at supermarkets and even health food stores.

Most of the “chocolate” on the market makes you fat, diabetic, hypertensive, and forgetful . . .

AT LEAST THEY’RE HONEST: University calls the amount of white people on campus a ‘failure,’ asks for ideas on how to have fewer.

A school-wide questionnaire at Western Washington University (WWU) asked the community “How do we make sure that in future years ‘we are not as white as we are today?’”

The question, released through the communications and marketing department’s daily newsletter Western Today, comes on the heels of admonishments given in multiple convocation addresses by WWU President Bruce Shepard for the university’s “failure” to be less white.

Someone in West Hartford had called the police, and a young officer, believing he was doing his duty, had pursued the complaint to my street. Our block would have been the first stop for the wayward shoveler if he had entered Hartford.

And so,

Proving their progressive merit badges were earned, the mayor and chief of police both have spent hours biting their lips and shaking their heads as ethnics tell horrible tales of locked car doors and scowls in elevators. Connecticut: bastion of horrible racism. . . .

Think of what these experts Glanville had at his disposal are experts in: race harassment, what is racist, what tripped the fuzzy grey line, et cetera et cetera. This is how the race hustlers work. Did you hear Glanville got shook down by a cop in his driveway? Oh Lord, it’s Alabama 1954, never mind that Glanville could buy a home in the mayor and governor’s neighborhood. What Glanville and company do not see, what they can never comprehend, is that when a minor question by a concerned cop elicits such a response by dozens of people, people with real authority, the power is in the hands of people like Glanville, not the evil, white cop.

CURIOUS: Why modest nutrient deficiencies can lead to disease.

Renowned biochemist Bruce Ames, still going strong, has put forward a triage theory of nutrition. Basically, if a vitamin or mineral is in short supply, the body prioritizes its use for essential functions. These functions are likely to be oriented to short-term benefit. “Non-essential” functions are those more likely to be of benefit to health in the long run.

Here’s a recent paper by Ames in which he tested the triage theory . . .

It appears that if not enough selenium, a required mineral, is around, then certain enzyme functions will be compromised, leading to cancer, heart disease, and immune dysfunction, the last of which will predispose to infections and cancer.

First quarter there is three men and two women, second quarter there is three women and two men, and it goes back and forth.” Huh? So “neutral” means “quota”? It’s like “equal opportunity” in that sense.

Here’s the kicker. The motto of the league is “Equal Pay for Equal Play,” which (so says the article) “solidifies the entire premise of what the league is trying to accomplish.” But the moment you force teams to play their worst players (i.e., the women), you’re all but admitting that the play is not equal at all. The entire premise, then, is that women should be paid the same for worse work.

So a smart team would enter the league with only male players, except half of them would call themselves women.
