ANYTHING BUT: Gender [sic] Neutral Basketball. I saw the headline and thought that a smart team would enter the league with only male players. Then I read, “The game starts like this. First quarter there is three men and two women, second quarter there is three women and two men, and it goes back and forth.” Huh? So “neutral” means “quota”? It’s like “equal opportunity” in that sense.
Here’s the kicker. The motto of the league is “Equal Pay for Equal Play,” which (so says the article) “solidifies the entire premise of what the league is trying to accomplish.” But the moment you force teams to play their worst players (i.e., the women), you’re all but admitting that the play is not equal at all. The entire premise, then, is that women should be paid the same for worse work.
So a smart team would enter the league with only male players, except half of them would call themselves women.
