LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT IT: Porn HIV Shutdown, It’s the Gays Again.

The pornography industry had another shutdown this month. It was a man, but they did not release a name. This is different from the September shutdown related to a few performers becoming HIV positive. Cruise some forums and you’ll find that the HIV positive performers are men who have sex with men. This is also not a case of contracting HIV at a shoot. . . .

The media will never delve into this HIV shutdown or others, and they have a wonderful cover story, “protect the identity of the afflicted”. When has that ever stopped the media? Well, when the afflicted is a member of a protected group. Gay is cool so we cannot discuss any negatives to that group. Pay no attention to gays being used in straight porn or an industry with HIV issues or an industry that does not test for diseases despite fluid exchange and high risk behavior offscreen.

“BLAME REAGAN” IS THE OLD “BLAME BUSH”: Hidden History: Fighting Bathhouse Closures.

Why did the authorities not try to stop the spread faster? They did. Municipalities tried to close bathhouses down in the hot spots, but gays fought closure and even after they knew better about the disease.

San Francisco was forced to delay closing bathhouses in 1984. . . . [A] gay advocate cited that closing the bathhouses was just a ploy to push “homophobic political agendas” and another said constitutional issues were involved. . . .

In 1988, the bathhouses of Los Angeles were still fighting closures. . . . This was pre-red ribbon days, but thousands of gays were dropping dead from a disease primarily transmitted through sexual acts. The amount of self-delusion is high in the community and no higher than one of the bathhouse operators.

“We all have lots of friends who have died of AIDS,” said Myers, 53, a mild-mannered former beautician with a life-sized photo of a nude man on his office wall. “If we thought we were part of the problem, we could not look in the mirror. But we’re not.”

. . . in 2004, Los Angeles was back at it trying to enforce rules on bathhouses again due to the rise in HIV infections. A similar refrain can be heard,

… bathhouse owners and some gay rights activists argue that to close or restrict the bathhouses and sex clubs would infringe on the civil rights of patrons and business owners. . . .

Similar to the minimum wage propaganda that removed any culpability from the single mother of four, gay men shall not be responsible for their actions. As much as the media wants to use President Reagan as a symbol for straight, white Christian America that avoided the AIDS issue, it was the gays who were their worst enemy.

STEVE SAILER comments on Alison Rauh’s paper, “Convergence Between Black Immigrants and Black Natives Across and Within Generations.”

I may be interpreting this wrongly, but it appears that black males who were born abroad do worse the younger their parents brought them here. For example, if you arrive at 17, you aren’t that likely to join the Bloods or Crips to deal crack. It just seems stupid. . . .

Dr. Rauh seems to blame the age effect on accent, with white people positively discriminating in favor of foreign black accents. Could be.

But of course the stereotype that a black with a prissy-sounding Anglo-Nigerian accent is probably a grad student type who won’t mug you is, according to all the evidence Dr. Rauh assembles, a pretty accurate one. Whereas a jet black youth who tries to have an accent like some gangsta from Compton probably isn’t a grad student type. If he sounds like a gangsta during a job interview, maybe that’s what he wants to be.

BUT WAIT. THERE’S MORE: ObamaCare May Devastate the Real Estate and Travel Industries.

Millions are losing their health insurance policies and being forced onto the ObamaCare exchanges, where most plans only provide local medical coverage. As Americans realize they must pay for all non-emergency medical care when they leave their home county, their decisions may have a profound impact on the real-estate market, particularly the second home sector, and on the travel business. . . .

What happens to those plans to send the kids to live with the grandparents for the summer, when little Josh needs to keep up with his allergy shots? What decision will a family make when Dad needs to move to start his new job, while the kids stay behind to finish up the school year? What kind of financial pain will be inflicted on American contract workers, who rent a hotel residence for three months while they complete a project? And who will buy a vacation home when the costs include out-of-pocket medical expenses?

DOG BITES MAN: BATFE Implicated in more rogue operations.

As Fox News reports, BATFE [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] agents in cities across the country used rogue tactics to go after guns on the street by allegedly luring mentally ill individuals to participate in sting operations, then later arresting many of these same individuals.  There are also reports that BATFE agents allowed minors to smoke pot and drink alcohol in connection with these operations.

The allegations against BATFE came about as a result of an in-depth investigation earlier this year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which exposed an ill-conceived BATFE sting in Milwaukee that included agents hiring a brain-damaged man to promote an undercover storefront and then arresting him for his work.

According to the latest Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article on the issue, BATFE officials told Congress the failed Milwaukee operation was an isolated case of inadequate supervision.

But apparently it was not.  Instead, it appears that it was part of a pattern of questionable activities in several states.

BOOK REVIEW: “Feminism Is For Everybody” Confirms That Feminism Is Not For Everybody.

One area I found myself agreeing with Hooks was her condemnation of child abuse perpetrated by women. Hooks’s willingness to confront female violence is incredibly brave, even if she frames it with the absurd statement that this abuse only comes from the fact many women are “more patriarchal” than men. . . .

If women are the primary perpetrators of child abuse, and pass these patterns of abuse on to their children, the system of oppression Hooks opposes is actually matriarchal. It is a system perpetrated and passed down through bad mothers. Hooks calls her own mother “the strongest patriarchal voice in my life,” and frequently hints at an incredibly unhappy and abusive childhood. . . .

She projects oppression onto men, even defining her own mother’s abuse as masculine, so she can avoid truly confronting it, and continue to play out the pattern of powerlessness she learned as a child.

Also: “While Hooks advocates men playing an equal role in child rearing, most boys are now being raised in single-parent, or divorced homes, with most divorces initiated by women. Feminist policies have resulted in less involvement from fathers, and total matriarchal control of the household.”

Related: Book review: The Garbage Generation. “This is the central point of the entire book. Under Patriarchy, men have the socially created role as provider for his family. The feminists called it oppression, and engaged in a variety of ways to overthrow the Patriarchal ‘hegemony,’ but what they have really done, in essence, was to demean, marginalize and literally destroy the role of FATHER in the creation of the nuclear family.”

IS THERE ANY OTHER KIND? A Meaningless “Hate Crimes” Report. “The Department of Justice has just released its ‘hate crimes’ report for 2012. As usual, it is a mix of the inexcusable, the unreliable, and the incomprehensible. To begin with the inexcusable, it still lists Hispanics as a victim category but not as a perpetrator category. Offenders can only be white, black, Indian/Eskimo, or Asian, so despite the fact that Hispanics are the second largest group in the country, as offenders they are lumped in with whites.”

Related: Guns and Race.

Much to the displeasure of the press, however, unwelcome commenters on articles about guns and murder often post links to the Administration’s own “Race” Web page on the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ Homicide Trends website. There, federal bean counters stated:

In 2005, offending rates for blacks were more than 7 times higher than the rates for whites.

Initially, the Obama Administration dealt with the difficulty that blacks were committing murder so much more often than whites by not updating the Homicide Trends website. For years, BJS’ Web page was stuck on 2005. . . .

Rather than solve the problem of blacks committing a disparate number of murders, the Obama Administration has instead deleted the offending Web page. Now, when you type http://bjs.gov/homicide/race.htm into your browser, you get “This webpage is not available.” (It is still archived here.)

JOHN O’SULLIVAN: Teaching women to be resentful of men has real, lasting consequences.

When my wife, who has stage-three breast cancer, goes to the emergency room, the first question they ask her is whether or not she feels safe at home. If she is anxious, the hospital social worker feels comfortable assuming some form of abuse. They repeatedly ask inappropriate questions and make grave assumptions without proof.

As a society, we are so trained to look for abuse that we ignore any other possibility. An argument can be called verbal abuse. A wife under serious stress is a victim. A man concerned about spending money is controlling. A wife refusing to answer her phone is enduring harassment. These opinions are presented as facts. It’s just assumed a man is oppressing a woman. That’s what feminism run amok has done. . . .

Teaching women to assume the worst of men has real consequences. We should not tolerate such a toxic message. We live in a country where millions of children are prohibited by law to see Dad because we imagine extremes to be normal.

WISCONSIN: GOP bill would change WI child custody, support laws. “Father’s rights groups are fighting to change the way courts rule in child custody and child support cases.  And they’ve gotten the attention of some Republican lawmakers. Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc) authored Assembly Bill 540, which seeks to establish a presumption in the law that equal placement with each parent is in the best interest of a child after a divorce.”

BEHIND THE CURVE: The Economist finally discovers the GOP’s Marriage Gap (but for women only).

The Economist, representing the dominant mindset, thinks the GOP should strive harder to make single motherhood even more socially acceptable than it is now, which, presumably, would lead to even more single women. But they are natural Republicans. Oh, except they are not.

My suggestion, in contrast, is that the GOP should finally notice that it’s time to try policies for making marriage more affordable.

REPREHENSIBLE: Battered women morally entitled to kill abusers, University of Ottawa professor asserts.

While very few women kill abusive men who are asleep or passed out, it’s “unfair” to charge them with first degree murder, Sheehy argues. “It’s not fair to characterize it as the most heinous form of murder, because it may be their own route to survival.”

Battered women’s “moral courage,” Sheehy writes in her book, “deserves our respect.

Murdering someone in his sleep. How courageous! Seriously, though, if he’s asleep, just walk away.

Also, why is the situation framed as a woman killing a man, when domestic violence by women is comparable to, if not greater than, that of men?

CDC: More American men than women report having suffered “reproductive coercion.”

I’ve pointed out that most of these studies on reproductive coercion are full of selection bias and fundamentally skewed towards making it seem as if only men lie to women about birth control in all of its various forms (pills, condoms, or pull-out method). One study cited by Marcotte and all of the others who have written on this topic from a feminist perspective rely on studies of women who called domestic violence hotlines or women’s health clinic visitors. Such studies are not properly controlled. There aren’t any men’s clinics, and even if there were it is doubtful that men would even have the awareness to name what it is that feminists call reproductive coercion. And if 15% to 25% of women who visit or call domestic violence hotlines or women’s clinics claim to have been coerced into birth then we’d expect the numbers in the entire population to be quite a bit lower.

So what does an apples-to-apples comparison of the ‘reproductive coercion’ experienced by both men and women look like?  The CDC has some stats on this.

PRESUMED GUILTY: How the government encourages kangaroo courts for sex crimes on campus.

Yu’s resident adviser told him some students had seen him and the young woman on their way to the dorm. They had been so concerned by Walker’s apparently inebriated state that they called campus security. Alarmed, Yu contacted Walker on Facebook to make sure everything was all right. She replied that she had had a “wonderful time” and that he had done “nothing wrong”-indeed, that she was sorry for having “led [him] on” when she wasn’t ready for a relationship. A month later Walker messaged Yu herself, again apologizing for the incident and expressing hope that it would not affect their friendship. There were more exchanges during the next months, with Walker at one point inviting Yu to dinner at her place. . . .

Last February, one year after the encounter, the other shoe dropped: Yu was informed that Walker had filed charges of “nonconsensual sexual contact” against him through the college disciplinary system. Two and a half weeks later, a hearing was held before a panel of three faculty members. Yu was not allowed an attorney . . . Many of his questions (including ones about Walker’s friendly messages, which she had earlier told the investigator she sent out of “fear”) were barred as “irrelevant”; he says that when he was allowed to question Walker, she would start crying and give evasive or nonresponsive answers. Yu was found guilty and summarily expelled from Vassar.

What this meant was that, in practice, the courts of every state – those that had openly rejected the “fathers’ rights” doctrine from the beginning, and those that had given it lip service while effectively nullifying it through the application of broad exceptions – decided custody on the basis of the best interests of the child, with a strong presumption that maternal custody was in a child’s best interests.

The maternal preference was based on strongly held beliefs about the natural superiority of women and the inferiority of men, as a class, with respect to child-rearing functions.

JUDICIAL WATCH: Catholic Healthcare Providers Promote Obamacare, Get HHS Grants.

Judicial Watch has obtained records from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that show ardent support for Obamacare in propaganda produced by the Catholic Health Association followed by HHS “navigator grants” to affiliated groups—Via Christi Health System and Ascension Health—promoting the president’s disastrous healthcare law. . . .

In the 2009 letter Conlin says Via Christi is an affiliate of Ascension and he mentions an enclosed interactive CD and pamphlet promoting Obamacare. The CD was not provided to JW as part of the records request but the pamphlet (“Realizing Our Vision for U.S. Health Care) was. Put together by the Catholic Health Association of the United States, it’s essentially a propaganda piece for Obamacare, extolling its supposed virtues. . . .

We also know that both Via Christi and Ascension have benefitted for endorsing the president’s hostile takeover of the nation’s healthcare system. The Catholic healthcare affiliates received HHS grants worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to enroll people in Obamacare. One of the grants was for $232,406 and the other for $165,683, according to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

BRING IT ON: Ohio Republicans Introduce Constitutional Carry Bill.

Until a few years ago, the only state with “constitutional carry” was (by virtue of a quirk of history) Vermont. Since 2007, though, the idea has caught on, with Wyoming, Alaska, Arizona, and Arkansas all abolishing their mandatory permitting systems. . . .

After a shameful period in the twentieth century in which the right to keep and bear arms was eroded nationwide, the Second Amendment has recently undergone something of a restoration. All 50 states now have some form of concealed carry regime — a development that would have been unthinkable twenty years ago — and some have gone even further, removing the permitting process completely. If Ohio were to join the five states that have taken the latter step, it would perhaps mark the idea’s transformation from fringe arrangement to mainstream option.

ROBERT OSCAR LOPEZ: You’re trusting these clowns to say whether kids should have moms and dads? “You’ll notice that whenever research is done on parenting, which doesn’t deal with the specific issue of same-sex parenting, scholars find adverse effects tied to divorce, adoption, artificial reproductive technology, blended families, and other parenting arrangements that involve a lost connection to a mother or father. That is to say, divorces are hard on kids, as the research shows. Adoptees struggle with their identity and often experience certain existential crises, especially as they grow into adulthood. Sperm-donor-conceived children, in a 2010 study, reported significant uneasiness and stress as adults regarding their parents’ decision to use a third party’s genetic material to conceive them. And surrogacy arrangements, we have found in recent research, cause greater levels of depression in children, which makes sense given what we know about the mother-child bonding in gestation and breastfeeding. In fact a recent study found that surrogate-conceived children have a 95% higher risk of certain kinds of cancer, something that scientists have not been able to explain. Have you noticed something odd? The only way for a same-sex parenting household to exist, is by one of these methods. And whenever researchers study these family arrangements, without the study being about ‘same-sex parenting,’ they find, consistently, difficulties placed on the children. But then when they do studies on same-sex parenting, these difficult arrangements magically become no longer difficult!

Rather, the decision simply strikes down an unique state law which defined cohabitation as ‘bigamy.’ Even then, the statute might have been upheld but for the government’s policy of reserving prosecutions solely for cohabitators who for religious reasons considered themselves to be married to each other under God’s laws, and who fully conceded that they were not married under the civil law of the state.”

Similarly, University of Chicago professor Bernard Harcourt’s work on murder rates and mental-hospital lockup rates shows a statistical connection.

JILLIAN KAY MELCHIOR: Michigan Teachers Locked In.

Michigan passed right-to-work legislation a year ago this week, but like Arthur, many workers remain bound to their union membership against their will. Unions have searched for legal loopholes that allow them to hang on to their workers — which is hardly surprising, given estimates that they will lose $46.5 million a year now that Michigan has become the 24th right-to-work state in the nation.

Some of Michigan’s unions have given workers only very narrow windows to opt out, and others negotiated contracts before the right-to-work law took effect on March 28, locking their members into years of additional dues.

“The real positive effect of right-to-work in Michigan may not be realized for another year or two,” says Ari Adler, spokesman for Michigan’s House Republicans and House Speaker Jase Bolger. “We’re waiting for contracts to expire and for workers to be given their true choice. . . . I certainly don’t think [unions] are being up-front with the media or the public or their members.”

UK: Father with no rights: Mother stops him seeing daughter for 12 YEARS – despite 82 court orders demanding she back down.

Lord Justice McFarlane, presenting a written judgment in the Court of Appeal three months ago, said the mother had ‘doggedly refused to allow M to develop and maintain a relationship with her father without any good reason whatsoever’. M expressed a wish to see her father as recently as February 2012, and in 2007 even spent several months living with him while her mother was in hospital. But recently her position has ‘hardened’. The judgment revealed that since 2006 there had been 82 court orders for contact, seven judges had handled the case, and at least ten social workers had represented the girl.

Lord Justice McFarlane added: ‘This is an unimpeachable father against whom no adverse findings of fact have been made at any stage in this process and whose demeanour before this court was dignified and measured despite the enormous frustration and anger he must feel.’ The judge, who was sitting with Lord Justice Briggs and Lord Justice Aikens, said the mother had been diagnosed with an emotionally unstable personality disorder, paranoid traits and occasional depression.

Lord Justice McFarlane added: ‘These have not been helped by occasions when she has abused alcohol and illicit drugs.’ At one stage, he said, the mother had been found to have hidden knives in her bag. Lord Justice Aikens added: ‘The family justice system has failed the whole family, but particularly M, whose childhood has been irredeemably marred by years of litigation.’
