UK: Jobless mum advises her daughter, 19, to get pregnant – for an easy life on benefits.
Her mother, who has another daughter, Amie, aged 12, said: ‘I am better off on benefits. I refuse to work for a pittance and struggle.
‘I don’t have any qualifications so it is easier to claim money than persuade an employer to give me a job.
‘I told Melissa to work the system and have a baby so she could claim more benefits, get a house of her own and have a better life. ‘I don’t want her to work for peanuts in a low-pay job.’
As Ali G once asked of MP Tony Benn, “Does the welfare not just encourage young girls to go out and get jiggy with Mr. Biggy?”
Earlier: The US Welfare State At Work. “They encourage you to stay on the programs, and then if you do try to get off of ‘em, they penalize you . . . If you go out and make ten dollars, they gonna deduct twenty dollars for you making that ten. So, you really can’t get off of it. And then they see someone like me who wants to go to work. Well, then if I went to work, every dime that I would make will go to child care anyway, so why work?”
